Background of the Study
Mobile health (mHealth) applications have emerged as powerful tools in improving healthcare access and disease management, especially in low-resource settings. These applications enable remote monitoring of patients, facilitate communication between healthcare providers and patients, and promote self-management of chronic diseases such as diabetes and hypertension. In Nigeria, mHealth initiatives have been introduced to enhance healthcare delivery, particularly in rural and underserved areas.
Adamawa State, located in northeastern Nigeria, faces significant healthcare challenges, including inadequate medical infrastructure and limited access to specialized care. With a growing reliance on mobile technology, mHealth applications have the potential to bridge healthcare gaps by improving disease management and monitoring. However, the extent to which mHealth applications have improved disease management in Adamawa State remains unclear. This study seeks to evaluate the impact of mHealth applications on disease management, focusing on accessibility, patient engagement, and treatment adherence.
Statement of the Problem
Despite the proliferation of mobile health applications in Nigeria, their adoption and impact on disease management in Adamawa State have not been adequately studied. Barriers such as low digital literacy, poor network connectivity, and skepticism toward digital health solutions may limit their effectiveness. This study aims to investigate how mHealth applications contribute to disease management in Adamawa State and identify challenges affecting their usage.
Objectives of the Study
To evaluate the role of mHealth applications in improving disease management in Adamawa State.
To identify the challenges hindering the adoption of mHealth applications in the state.
To recommend strategies for enhancing the effectiveness of mHealth applications in disease management.
Research Questions
How have mHealth applications contributed to disease management in Adamawa State?
What barriers affect the adoption and use of mHealth applications in Adamawa State?
What strategies can enhance the effectiveness of mHealth applications in disease management?
Research Hypotheses
The use of mHealth applications has significantly improved disease management in Adamawa State.
Barriers such as poor digital literacy and network challenges limit the effectiveness of mHealth applications.
Increased awareness and investment in digital health infrastructure will enhance the role of mHealth in disease management.
Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study will focus on the use of mHealth applications by patients and healthcare providers in Adamawa State. Limitations include potential difficulties in obtaining reliable user data and resistance to adopting new technologies in rural areas.
